Not your typical Isla...

I decided that when I went to Isla this time, I wanted to explore and take some pictures of the non-tourist side of the island. I rented a golf cart and took my time driving around the different areas...

I'm not going to comment on each photo...

I drove by this house and loved the white laundry hanging over the purple house. I stopped to take a picture just as the woman whipped the clothes apart to see who was stopping in front of her house. Yikes! Lo siento!! Hola y adios!

Weird, huh? I turned the corner and saw this clown walking down the street. We just looked at each other, said "hola," and laughed.

Three years ago, I would have been terrified by these guys. Now they'll scurry up beside me while I'm walking around and I won't bat an eye.

I've heard about this place before and have wanted to try it but haven't had the chance. Today was a different story.

I drove up just as the owner was parking and he urged me to stop and try the special. Fish soup.

So, I parked the cart and went inside. Oh, my God...this soup was to die for.

Even though it was really hot outside, the soup was delicious. I was kind of a mess when I finished but it was worth it. Sunday fish soup is definitely worth a trip to La Bruja.

They also sell beaded work from the native women on the island...

And this picture of the group in front of the restaurant is one of my favorites...

Drove by my old stomping ground (Casa Laguna)...the little apartment that I stayed in when I came down in May, 2008. Good times.

And then headed back on the east side...

Stopped to do some shelling and found this little guy...put him back into the ocean...

Another shot...

And back home for me...until tomorrow...

I have to say that I did not recognize more than one or two pictures in this set! Now I want to explore more than ever. Lovely photos as always.

Great photos Deb! All the places I didn't see on this last trip because we really didn't get out of town. The downpour from those Ida bands put a damper on my island touring. I can't believe that abandoned tower on the Caribe side is still there! And I also got caught trying to take clothesline photos! Guess they don't appreciate snaps of their underwear!

P.S. The tower's on the bayside. My husband and a friend climbed up in it and took the tour in 2004.

I really enjoyed your photos, Deb. Nice to see some new scenery. So glad you made it to La Bruja. Tim was in heaven with that soup, too! Nice folks and delicious food!

Nancy - I know what you mean...most people spend the majority of time on the north end, but there's a whole island out there!

Barry - There were actually quite a few places for sale...most of them spray painted "se vende" on the sides with a phone number. I would have loved to look inside them.

Beck - Thanks...and it makes me wonder how I'D feel if someone was taking pictures of me hanging up my clothes! Ha!

Vee - They ARE nice folks at La Bruja. I was the only one there...they're definitely at an "out-of-the-way" location.
