One of the many internet friends I have made since I started blogging is Jill...she lives in Seattle. She had arranged a vacation to Mexico with a friend, but when her friend couldn't make it, she decided to make the trip on her own. I convinced her to take her laptop so that she could stay in touch with people without having to find or pay for internet shops. Besides that, when you're traveling solo, after a day of exploring it's kind of nice to find a cafe or restaurant that has WIFI and just sit and watch the people or scenery while you're blogging and having a cerveza or four. So, she has started a blog on her adventures...which began on November 17th. She's starting out in Merida...
... (this is just a photo I found on the internet, by the way), and will end up on Isla. If you want to check out her blog, go here. It's a fun read. I'm looking forward to her posts because I'm thinking of going to Merida for Spring break. Check it out!

Very cool Deb! I will go there. I have a friend who lives in Merida. I understand there's a LOT to see around there! One of these days! : )
Oh no! Now people will go to my blog and say...geez, she can't take a picture worth a darn, I'll stick with Isla Deb :)
In all seriousness, Deb, you MUST get to Merida. Must, must, must! I've been here less than 24 hours and feel like I'm right at home! It is a photographer's dream (erik, eat your heart out :P) I just wish I could do it justice with my little point & shoot. Spent the morning wandering (and getting lost) and now just took a dip in the pool and relaxing. Sooo much to see and do here! I'm sure I won't be able to blog it all! Thanks for the link to my page...
I can't wait to start reading it! We are going to Merida in March before Isla. I'm obsessed and read everything I can find.
Nancy - What a coincidence...I plan on being in Merida in March, too! I just booked a flight yesterday and have reservations at the Luz as well. I'll be there the 6th to the 13th. Will you be there during that time?
I was just getting ready to message you to ask the same question when I saw your message to me! My DH & I will be in Merida from the 4th to the 8th, so we'll at least have Saturday evening and Sunday to meet up! How cool! Then Monday we're leaving for Isla. I wish we were staying longer! It will be our second trip to Isla and first to Merida. We will have to talk more...how exciting :)
The real estate market has NOT reached the bottom yet and won't for probably another year. The condo is cute but I'd question its resalability down the line. Remember, you march to a different drummer...actually, a different symphony altogether! ha ha. As for a pragmatic offering from your old 'mountain' friend--I wouldn't invest a dime in Mexico and ever expect to get a penny of it back. Lease? Maybe. Rent? Sure. You love the area. Don't blame you. To live fulltime in Mexico, or any other place outside the US of A these days is a perscription for problems. Visit, enjoy, savor, absorb--wonderful. Invest securely--buyer beware. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. It's not that I'm not a wanderlust. You know me. I've lived in other parts of the world and loved it. I could never give up my zip code. Like you say, life is all about doors we open...I might add, and doors we don't open. Great pictures!
Nancy - I tried e-mailing your blogspot e-mail, but it wouldn't work. You can e-mail me at debstm@earthlink.net. We should stay in touch to get together when we're in Merida in March. Of course, since we're staying in the same hotel, I'm sure we'll see each other!
