I have a friend who spent the month of April in Belize. I've never met Barry, but we've gotten acquainted through my blog. He told me he took a lot of pictures while in Belize and I told him to send them to me and I could post a few on my blog since he didn't have one. I received his CD today...450 photos. Sheesh! That would take about 10 blogs, so I just went through them quickly tonight to post what I thought were the highlights. I've never been to Belize and Barry's never been to Isla. At first, I thought of doing a comparison post, but then I decided to give credit solely to Barry's photos of Belize. I think Isla lovers will find a lot of similarities.

I don't know how the American dollar rates against the Belizian dollar, but if it's even, these prices seem pretty high...

Fantastic photos! He's a great photographer. A lot of those are stunning! And Deb, I think I read somewhere that the Belize dollar is 2 to the U.S. dollar, but I could be wrong?

Are all the photos on Caye Caulker? We spent a day in Belize about 10 years ago....on a day trip from a cruise. We went to Zunantunich ruins--traveled across the country & it was a great way to see alot of it in a short time; stopping several places. Have always wanted to go back to the coast somewhere.
great photos Barry.(thanks for posting Deb) Barry, are hotels readily available for $40 to $60 a nite? Are the restaurants about the same or cheaper than the USA? And my barameter(grinning) for everything, how much is a COLD BEER? I love Isla, but at times it is losing it's flavor. Thanks ahead of time. carl/debbie

Howdy Debbie/Carl.. Thanks for the kind words.. Belize is indeed amazing especially San Pedro/Ambergris Caye ..Such a diversity of Folks . Garifuna,mayan,hispanic ,anglo. and they all seem to get along just fine.. you will say hello and smile a lot there.. Regarding prices. the best saying I heard there was' Ambergris Caye is the Most expensive place in Central America,, but the Cheapest Place in the Caribbean". There are two seasons there, the high,dry ,cooler ( 25Dec-14 April) and the low,wet.. hot and humid ( april 14-Dec 24). and prices vary, I stayed at Banana Beach Resort and I would recommend it without hesitation, great staff, super place,, it was $75USD /nite plus hotel tax... in High ( 25dec-14april)season the price almost doubles... As far as Food,, you can eat like a Tourist there.lots of places and have a tasty snapper dinner for $100USD or Eat at those wonderful Mom& Pop places and have to struggle through a giant bowl of delicious homemade Conch Chowder/rice /8 corn tortillas for $5USD or a 3 lb beef& chicken Burrito at Mickey's for $6.USD. you might have guessed,, take someone to share,, , and cold Beer. its $2. or if you want $48/case and they will deliver it to your place..plus,,the island gets its water from a desalinization plant on island, so its good to Drink right from the tap,, bottled water is personal choice not necessity. As you can tell . I Liked it there and can see a return visit in the future.
Good stuff! I miss Belize and have to get back to islands soon. One should try to mix the diversity of the interior with the funkiness of the islands.
