Guess what I got today!!

I went by my bank today to put in an order for some pesos before my trip in a few weeks...which I had thought would take a couple weeks to get. When I asked how long it would be, she said, "Oh, we have them here now." Yay! I only got $100 worth...which came out to $1,180 in pesos...and no fees. Last time I left for Mexico, I didn't have any pesos and I didn't like having to search around for an ATM machine when I got there to get some. Now I'll have incidental money for whatever comes along when I get there...which I fold up in my colorful little Mexican coin purses. Then, when I'm settled, I'll make the dash to the ATM machine.

The trip is all arranged and paid for. First stop...Playa del Carmen which I will use as a home base for traveling to Chichen Itza and Tulum. But I am mostly looking forward to Valladolid. (Not my picture.) I think I will really love the charm of a colonial city.

Then a few days on Isla...

Only 20 more days and counting...

Sounds like a great trip! I've been to Playa Del carmen, but not Valladolid--will be interested in how you like it--it has always intrigued me.
We always try to bring home some pesos--enough to get us thru the 1st few hours.

You're on the countdown Deb! I know what you mean about wanting a few pesos, especially if you're not starting out in your usual haunts on Isla! I think I have some leftover pesos in my Mexican wallet from this last trip, but we were bone dry at the start and used U.S. at the ferry. Can't wait to see your photos of Valladolid and Chichen Itza!

Thanks, all! Yes, this will be a very different trip for me. But I really want to get to different parts of Mexico, and I know if I go to Isla first, I'll never get off the damn island until it's time to go home! If anything, the trip will make for an interesting blog post!

Can't wait to hear about it! I've been to Valladolid but only for a few hours. And we spent the time just in the park and at the handicraft market across the street. I spent hours in there looking at the embroidered clothing.

Nancy - Can't wait to see the handicraft market. Thanks for giving me the heads-up! I think I will make a great customer.

Very wise to get small bills. Large bills are like having no money at all. You will be amazed at Playa. Very busy and hoity-toity. Valledolid is interesting. Be sure to go to the neighboring cenotes. Give me a shout when you hit the island.

Wayne, I know what you mean about the small bills...I learned that lesson on a previous trip. And I'm getting that impression of Playa, but I'm hoping to get down some side streets to find the NON hoity-toity places. I definitely plan on checking out some cenotes while I'm there. And I'll be sure to send you an e-mail before I get to Isla so we can meet up for the beer I promised you last time!
